Same Day Dentures
There are currently 40 million Americans who have no teeth, and the number is only expected to grow in the next few years. For such people, getting their unhealthy teeth removed and being fitted with dentures on the same day can be a great option. At Sabeti Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer same-day dentures to people, so they don’t have to be without teeth for any length of time.
What are Same-Day Dentures
Same-day dentures, also called immediate dentures, are dentures that can be placed on the same day immediately after extraction.
To makes these dentures, you will be called for an appointment several days before your teeth are extracted. Dr. Shohreh Sabeti will take an impression and measurements of your remaining teeth and mouth and will send the mold to a dental lab to be fabricated.
Once the same-day dentures are created, you will be called again and have all your remaining teeth extracted. You will then immediately be fitted with same-day dentures. Same-day dentures are usually used as temporary measures while you are waiting for your conventional dentures to be fabricated.
Advantages of Same-Day Dentures
Same-day dentures may be temporary, but they have a number of advantages:
Cons of Same-Day Dentures
Same-day dentures also come with a few limitations:
Candidates for Same-Day Dentures
For some people, same-day dentures are very convenient and effective. For others, these dentures may not be suitable. People who are of advanced age, who have poor overall health, and who may be undergoing cancer therapy may not be the best candidates for dentures as the treatment is complicated. People who do not have stable mental health or who are uncooperative should also not be given same-day dentures.
Taking Care of Same-Day Dentures
Whether you use the same day or conventional dentures, you will need to take care of them beyond just soaking them during the night.
Like your natural teeth, you will need to clean your dentures every day. This involves taking them out of your mouth and using a soft toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste to clean them. This keeps them free of bacteria and stains. Also, make sure you rinse your dentures after every meal.
Stand on a fluffy towel or fill your washbasin with water while cleaning the dentures, so if they slip, they won’t be damaged.
Do not use chemical household cleaners to clean them as they are not just toxic, but can also damage the dentures.
Also, do not use hot water to clean your dentures as it can distort their shape. If your denture becomes bent or requires fixing in any other way, don’t attempt to do it yourself. Bring it to us, and we will do the job for you.
